About Fly Fishing
Fly fishing is a sport which increases our awareness of nature’s beauty and
the environment. As a result, we focus strongly on conservation of
fish, their habitat, and other natural resources so that future
generations can enjoy our sport. Many of us practice catch & release
when we fish.
Although trout are the classic species one thinks of when fly fishing,
almost any game fish imaginable can be targeted in both fresh and
saltwater—from bass and bluegill to tarpon and sailfish. Fly fishing
trips can take us into the local foothills after trout, or to the
tropics after exotic species.
For those new to the sport, fly fishing is certainly not the easiest way
to fish, but it is definitely the most rewarding. Learning and enjoying
the sport can actually be rather inexpensive. It does require a little
concentration to master the basics, but skilled and patient teachers
make it much easier, and you can enjoy yourself right away. However, if
it’s a serious challenge you’re after, fly fishing is both an art and a
science which can become a lifetime pursuit for many.
