The Four Seasons of a Yellowstone Park Trout Bum
with Jeff Currier

7:30 p.m.

Thursday, October 10, 2013

San Marino Masonic Lodge

The title of this article might lead you to believe our October speaker is an expert on fly fishing Yellowstone Park. While this is true, it is also a major understatement—Jeff Currier is one of the most accomplished fly fishermen you’ll ever meet (and doesn’t act like he knows it). Our last program with Jeff proved fascinating. Still shy of his 50th birthday, Jeff has fished in more than 45 countries and landed more than 275 species of fish on the fly rod. As those members who enjoyed his program in ’07 recall, Jeff has the ability to make fishing in Poland sound as relevant and interesting as fishing waters familiar to us.

Yellowstone Park is one of the most common out-of-state fly fishing destinations for PCC members. Jeff has made Yellowstone his backyard for nearly thirty years. He knows exactly where to be in Yellowstone at the right time, he knows the hatches, the best fly patterns, and he is sharing that with us. Jeff will lead us through the calendar year of a trout bum’s life on these fabled waters with his breathtaking photos and detailed narrative.

I have to severely edit Jeff’s bio to fit here. Born in Massachusetts, Jeff grew up fly fishing throughout New England for every species available. Jeff presently resides in Victor, Idaho with his wife Yvonne, who will accompany Jeff on his visit. Jeff doesn’t stay at home for long. He has taught the skills of fly fishing, guided fly fishers throughout Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park and escorted fly fishers throughout six continents for fish including trout, peacock bass, tarpon, Nile perch, permit, tigerfish, trevally, taimen, and more. Jeff holds an IGFA World Record for an amazing mahseer he caught in India in 2008.

Jeff’s articles, photographs and artwork have graced the pages of magazines, catalogs, brochures and books. Jeff is the acclaimed author of Currier’s Quick and Easy Guide to Saltwater Fly Fishing and Currier’s Quick and Easy Guide to Warmwater Fly Fishing guide books. He is a well sought after expert for guest hosting and commentaries on television and radio, appearing on Fishing the West, Fly Fishing the World, In Search of Fly Water, Reel Adventures, Fly Fish TV, Fly Fish America and Ask About Fly Fishing Internet Radio. He was also a featured angler in the popular fly fishing movies Connect and Soulfish 2.

One of Jeff’s most recognized accomplishment was leading Team USA to its first ever top-ten finish in the World Fly Fishing Championships in Jaca, Spain in 2003. During the competition Jeff managed to fool fish on every venue and placed third in the individual standings, becoming the only American ever to take home a medal in the 30-year history of the Championships.

Jeff brings a sense of humor, enthusiasm, approachability and forty years of fly fishing expertise to wherever he goes. If you want a great evening devoted to the excitement, beauty, humor and satisfaction of our sport, don’t miss this presentation.

You can follow Jeff’s global fly fishing adventures, exploits, tips, advice, photography and story-telling on his expanding blog and informative web site at www.jeffcurrier.com.

This October meeting has us back at the Masonic Ledge for Fall. Enjoy an outstanding fly fishing program this Thursday evening, October 10th, at 7:30 p.m. at the San Marino Masonic Lodge, 3130 Huntington Drive, San Marino 91108.
